What is epidural anesthesia? Epidural anesthesia is a regional anesthesia that blocks pain in a particular region of the body. The goal of an epidural is to provide analgesia, or pain relief, rather than anesthesia, which leads to total lack of feeling. Epidurals block the nerve impulses from the lower spinal segments. This results in decreased sensation in the lower half of the body. Epidural anesthesia is the most popular method of pain relief during labor. Also it is a common method used for pregnant women to reduce pain at birth. However, this method also has negative effects on their health. The traditional interspinous leveling methods (LOR) and the selection of the injection part are carried out by hand examination of the parts of the anesthetist with anatomic markings. Some patients may have problems, and therefore the position of the needle during the passage of the needle into the epidural space is essential to provide precise information on the applied pressure and distance taken. The aim is to provide real-time assistance or guidance with sensors during the passage of the needle into the epidural space. We hope MediPic will be easy way to find epidural space for pregnant women and other patients.
